About What kind of public transportation does New York have going to Jersey City, New Jersey

What kind of public transportation does New York have going to Jersey City, New Jersey?
I will be travelling to New York next month and staying in Jersey City, New Jersey somewhere in Tonnele Avenue. This is my first time in going to New York. Aside from taking a taxi, is there public transportation that could take me there in Jersey City? I would really appreciate for any help.

Answer 1 :
You can take the PATH train. It connects lower Manhattan with Jersey City / Hoboken / Newark: http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/path/html/map.html Hope this helps.
Answer 2 :
You can take the Path Train from The World Trade Center, Christopher Street, 9th Street, 14th Street, 23rd Street or 33rd Street to the Journal Square Stop. Here's some info - http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/path/html/
Answer 3 :
I wish you could have been more specific in the address. W/O knowing where you are starting from on Tonnele it is hard to get more specific. If you are staying at a hotel/motel, they can give exact directions. There is local bus service on Tonnele Av but nothing that goes into NYC. Between Jersey City and NY - you have PATH (subway). The Journal Square station is closest to Tonnele Avenue. Fare is $1.75 each way. Checking on Google maps it is hard to say whether the station is within walking distance or you would have to take a local bus to get to that PATH station. At Journal Square you have a choice of 2 routes: Midtown Manhattan (33rd St) with stops in Manhattan at Christopher St, 9th St/6th Av, 14th St/6th Av, 23rd St/6th Av and 33rd St/6th Av/Broadway. You can also get a train that goes to lower Manhattan (World Trade Center-WTC)
Answer 4 :
I went to new york last week and i can list out these transportation, from the best to the worst. 1. Subway (underground train) 2. Cab for quicknest, bus for cheapnest 3. Car (absolutely NOT recommended) 4. Someone else's car. (Definitely don't try. Newyorkers are expecially rude and if they offer you a ride, you never know where you will be next and if you are alive at all, how much money was taken from you

There's a Ripley's Believe It or Not there. I don't recommend casinos. I've only been to one, but the air was saturated with cigarette smoke. I couldn't understand how anyone would bring their kids there, but they do

About What is the best & fastest way (other than cab) to get from JFK Airport to Jersey City

What is the best & fastest way (other than cab) to get from JFK Airport to Jersey City?
I had to change my travel plans a little. Was going to stay in NY but now will stay at the Ramada at Tonnelle in Jersey City next month. Problem is that I will be arriving by plane at JFK in Queens, NY. So instead of using a cab which will be kinda expensive, I am just wondering if there is some Airtrain or PATH or something that connects New Jersey to JFK.

Answer 1 :
A cab would be the fastest but as you say it would be expensive. From JFK, Take the AirTrain to the Howard Beach subway station. From there take a Manhattan bound A train to Chambers Street. At Chambers St use the staircase at the back of the platform, exit thru the turnstiles and walk down the passageway to the Vesey St stairs. Make a right on Vesey St and walk down to the PATH WTC station (about 1 block). Take a Newark bound PATH train to Journal Square. The hotel is about 1 block away. The AirTrain fare is $5.00 and the subway fare is $2.25 (as of 6/28/09). At the Howard Beach station purchase a $7.25 MetroCard from the vending machines (buy 2 if you will be making a return trip - it will save time). Use the turnstiles that marked "to subway". Those turnstiles will deduct the entire $7.25. . "A" trains run approximately every 12-15 minutes. The trip to Chambers St should take about 45 minutes. The PATH fare is $1.75. At the PATH WTC station you can either buy a round trip MetroCard for $3.50 or a single ride card for $1.75. PATH takes about 12 minutes. Note: If you buy the MetroCard keep it separate from the 2nd one you bought at Howard Beach (if you decide to buy it) because the faces cards are identical in appearance (the backs may be different). Edit (Apologies to Y!A but I had to respond to the other answer [for the sake of accuracy] and you'll save about $50 one way): The subway is not grimy or dirty. At Howard Beach you should be able to get a seat on the train. The train will get a bit crowded as you get closer to Manhattan but that is to be expected on a heavily traveled line.
Answer 2 :
Believe it or not, the best thing for you to do is rent a car!! Unlike in NYC where no one drives, you are DEFINITELY going to need a car in New Jersey anyway, so, rent one cheaply at JFK and drive to your hotel in comfort, rather than shlepping yourself and your bags on trains and buses. For example, the cab fare from JFK to Manhattan, including tolls and tips, etc., is about $60 bucks, and that only gets you to Manhattan, you'd still have to get yourself to Jersey, which is no mean feat and would probably cost at least another $60 or more, so, like I said, believe it or not, a cheap compact rental car is your best, and certainly your most comfortable, option!! Sure, you could take the AirTrain and the Subway and then yet ANOTHER train or a bus to New Jersey, and maybe save a dollar or two, but, sheesh, it takes hours and is grimy and dirty and crowded and, well, just thoroughly unpleasant in every possible way imaginable. Good luck, and the link below is a guide to car rental companies at JFK.

About what is the best route to go from Jersey City to Cincinnati through Train or Bus

what is the best route to go from Jersey City to Cincinnati through Train or Bus?
I want to go from Jersey City, NJ to Cincinnati, OH. Can anyone guide me what would be the best route to go using Train or Bus? I don't want to travel in plane or in my car

Answer 1 :
I don't think passenger rail service even exists between Jersey City and Cincinnati. You can take a Greyhound Bus (http://www.greyhound.com/home/), but it will take you 17 hours and cost at least $70! It's faster and almost the same price to take a plane, if that is at all possible for you. As a general rule, Americans travel within the US via car or airplane. That's just the way it is

Answer 1 :
Train is faster but the bus is cheaper. Depends if you have lots of money or lots of time
Answer 2 :
There's no train station in Old Bridge, but there is one in Aberdeen/Matawan, which is probably the nearest. Your best bet is to check the NJ Transit website--look at the North Jersey Coast Line. Also check out the Academy Bus line website

Answer 1 :
Take the train from Penn Station. You will want to check this website: {www.njtransit.com} for the exact times. Look under the tab entitled "trip planner". If you don't like trains, you can take a bus from the Port Authority, and get those times from the same website. Hope this is helpful to you

Take Route 1 to the NJ Turnpike South. Take the I-287 exit 10 to Metuchen/Edison Twp./Perth Amboy - go 1.2 mi Take 287 N about 11 mi Take the CR-527 exit 10 to New Brunswick/S Bound Brook and turn left off the exit on to Davidson Ave IN JUST 0.2 miles, turn right at Executive Drive The DoubleTree is sort of impossible to miss now. Oh, by the way, NJ Transit also stops in New Brunswick if you want to take the train in. There's only a couple of stops per day, though, and you'd need to catch a cab or bus to the DoubleTree

About If I stayed in New Jersey, how long wld it take me to travel to New york city by the ferry

If I stayed in New Jersey, how long wld it take me to travel to New york city by the ferry?
I m planning a trip to NY city, anyone know any good hotels in NY, or in NJ-- closer towards NY city? If I stay in New Jersey, how long will it take me to get to times square or JFK airport? Does the New york water taxi stop in New Jersey?
New York City - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The last ferry between Manhattan and New Jersey stopped running back around World War 2. Water taxis aren't available either. Jersey City and Hoboken are close to NYC if you use the PATH train, should take about ten minutes travel time from either. Add another ten minutes to get from the PATH station at 33 Street to Times Square. JFK is another matter. That trip is at least 45 minutes on a good day from midtown, and as a realistic matter expect 75 minutes.
Answer 2 :
Hi, there are several ferry routes to the city, some go downtown and others midtown. If you take the ferry to midtown, you are within minutes of Times Square. JFK Airport would require you to take a cab or the subway (Train to the Plane) which you could get at Times Square. Consider the ferry to Belford or Atlantic Highlands for a visit to the NJ shore area. Hope this helps. Barb
